Mulaghooshyam

Mulagooshyam Palakkadan style is a very easy recipe one can try out on the days one doesn't feel like cooking, particularly in the summer days.

Ingredients for Mulagooshyam
1 Vazhakka / raw plantain
1 cup chena / elephant yam chopped into thin pieces
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp pepper powder
salt to taste
Handful curry leaves

For tempering the Mulagooshyam
2 tsps coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp broken / split urad dal

How to prepare the Mulagooshyam
Slit plantain into 3 or 4 lengthwise pieces and then slice them evenly. take about a cup of these cut plantains.
Similarly cut chena / yam in to uniform thin pieces.
Take a vessel, add vazhakka pieces, chena pieces, salt ( about 1 tsp ) / to taste, turmeric powder, pepper powder and jus enough water to cook the vegetables. There should be a little water remaining with the vegetables after they have cooked nicely. Mash them lightly.
Heat oil in a frying pan, splutter mustard seeds. Then add urad dal and curry leaves. When brown pour the curry into the frying pan.
Mix well and simmer for a minute.
Serve hot with rice.
