Alappuzha / Alleppey District of Kerala

Alappuzha town , the administrative capital of the district is a spectacular place  with picturesque canals, lagoons and backwaters  and has been called as the "Venice of the East " by Lord Curzon.

Alleppey or Alappuzha is a labyrinthe network of canals, silver sands and beaches, houseboat cruises  and what not, makes it a one of the best tourist destinations of India. People flock to this place frpm al over the world to enjoy the best of God's own country or the green paradise on earth.
Alappuzha was earlier known as Alleppey, the name got changed to Alappuzha in 1990. The district is a well known tourist destination and is famous for coir industries as well. Alappuzha is one of the fourteen districts of Kerala

Attractions of Alappuzha
There are many places to visit, cruise on the backwaters in the gentle and majestic moving houseboats  and many other tourist attractions as well as learn more about the traditional village life of Kerala which you cannot see in cities.
Snake boat races  which are held every year during the Onam festival celebrations are the main cultural events of the district,  attracting the tourists from all parts of the world.

There is a church in Kokkamangalam  or Kokkathamangalam which was established by St Thomas one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ who came to the place to spread the message of the Christ.
