Pathiramanal Island of Kumarakom


Pathiramanal  literally means Midnight Sands or the sands of the Midnight, it can be taken in anyway you like and the main attraction here is the migratory birds which you can see in various sizes and shapes.
This island can also be called as the Bird Watcher's paradise.

This Island is located in the middle of the Vembanattu Kayal or the Vembanad lake  where you can go only through a boat ride. One cannot reach the Island by road.

The Pathiranamal  island has a total area of about 10 acres on the backwaters of Kumarakom is home to many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world.  It is believed that a young Brahmin dived into the Vembanad Lake to perform his evening ablutions and the water made way for the land to rise from below. The fact is that the Pathiramanal island can be accessed only by boat.

How to Reach Pathiramanal Island.
You have to reach the Kottayam Boat jetty or Alappuzha Boat jetty. You can take a ferry from there to Pathiramanal Island.
You can also get a boat ride from Aruvikkuzhi waterfalls which is nearby in the area. It is also easily accessible from Kumarakom bird sanctaury.
